behind and behind the scenes

I have not posted in a while. it has been a rough season of life. i think i am past what happened to me last. whatever. however i am now attending a youth workers convention in atlanta georgia and have gained some knowledge that i would like to share.

this is the second day of the conference and i would just like to rewind to the first night we were here. we got here thursday night and we happened to see steve fee. he was pretty darn good. my friend mike wants his cd.

yesterday we were in the general session and they made a phone call to a guy that was tossed out on his ear from his youth ministry. between the conference people and his wife, they bought him a ticket and had him come out and enjoy the conference. while they had him on the phone i started to cry. i am not sure where that came from, but my hearts breaks for people who have not been given a fare shake and life is going against them and then someone goes and does something like this for them.

i have heard shane and shane, desperation band, third day, chris tomlin, and some punk band. did not care for them much. just my taste.

i heard shaine claiborne speak and was a little let down. i was hoping to hear something insightful and adventurous but instead got a reading from the bible. i get his point that what more is there to say than the greatest sermon ever has not already said, but i wanted to know more about the man.

i also heard today phyllis tickle. it was the most amazing bit of church history i have ever come across. besides me trying to catch up with that many 4 dollar words that fast, i did catch her main point. every 500 years church culture changes. we are about due and it is the emergent generation who will be responsible for shaping the next 500 years. thats me. scary.
